EnergyGazer Security Information
This page provides information for using the Current Monitoring System EnergyGazer (the “Product”) safely, as well as notices of security updates.
Security Update Notices
We will post a notice on this page when we release an update that includes security countermeasures, or when we identify a vulnerability that requires action. Each notice describes the content of the update and why it is needed, the impact of not applying it, and how to apply it.
| Date | Affected | Details |
|---|---|---|
| There are currently no notices. | ||
In addition to this page, we will also notify you as follows:
- Cloud version: Notices are posted under “Announcements” (the bell icon in the left menu) on the EnergyGazer screen and are also sent to each user’s registered email address. Administrators can add mailing lists, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Google Chat as recipients. Even if you stop receiving emails, you can always check “Announcements” on the screen.
- On-premises version: Because it runs within your network, the on-screen “Announcements” feature is not available. We will contact your designated person directly by email.
For Safe Use
- When installing the Product, follow the procedures in the instruction manual for the initial setup.
- Use a login password that you do not use for other services and that is hard to guess (at least 8 characters combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols). If you have been issued a temporary password, change it immediately after your first login.
- Issue an account to each user and do not share accounts. Delete accounts that are no longer used, for example because of a transfer or retirement.
- The EnergyGazer device (the “EG Device”) is configured at shipment not to accept connections from outside. Please use it without changing this setting.
- The on-premises server is a product that runs within your network. Do not make it directly accessible from the Internet. If you use it from outside your organization, restrict access, for example by using a VPN.
- Keep the OS, browser, and apps on the computers and smartphones used to operate the Product up to date.
- If your login ID or password may have been leaked or used by a third party, contact our support immediately.
- If you notice any suspicious logins or behavior, please also contact our support.
For contact details, see “Contact” at the bottom of this page.
Software Updates
- EG Device: The device regularly checks the update server (our server for the cloud version, or your EG-OPM for the on-premises version) and automatically applies new software. No action is required on your part. Before applying an update, it verifies that the file has not been tampered with or corrupted, and if the update fails, it automatically reverts to the previous version (software version 1.3.0 or later). We will provide update guidance to customers using versions earlier than 1.3.0.
- Cloud server: We update it. No action is required on your part.
- On-premises server: We provide the update files. Depending on your environment, we deliver them by email or other electronic means, or bring them to you in person. Your administrator registers and runs the file from the EG-OPM admin screen (“EG System” → “Updates”). Back up the server before running the update. The procedure is described in the EG-OPM Wiki.
- EG Devices for the on-premises version: When you register the firmware we provide in the EG-OPM admin screen (“EG Device” → “Updates”), each device downloads and applies it automatically.
- Checking versions: The software version of the EG Device can be checked in the smartphone app and on the device settings screen (for the on-premises version, also in the “EG Device” list in EG-OPM). The version of EnergyGazer (server side) can be checked from “Product Info” (the ⓘ icon) at the lower left of the EnergyGazer screen → “About EnergyGazer”. The version of EG-OPM for the on-premises version is shown at the lower left of the EG-OPM admin screen.
If automatic updates are not performed, for example because the device has not been connected to the network for a long time, please contact our support.
Disclaimer Regarding Updates
Security updates include fixes for vulnerabilities and defects. If you do not apply updates, or if you use the Product in a state where updates cannot be delivered (for example, disconnected from the network), unauthorized access, information leakage, tampering with or loss of data, or interruption of measurement may occur.
Except in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence on our part, we shall not be liable for any damage resulting from a failure to apply updates, or from generally foreseeable incidents or failures (such as power outages, communication line failures, or attacks by third parties). For details, please refer to the Energy Gazer System License Agreement concluded at the time of your contract.
Support Period
Security updates for the Product are provided during the term of the Energy Gazer System License Agreement (for the on-premises server, during the term of your maintenance contract).
If we decide to discontinue the Product, we will notify you at least six months in advance and also post a notice on this page.
When Disposing of, Transferring, or Returning the Product
The EG Device and the on-premises server store connection and network (such as Wi-Fi) settings, certificates and keys used for authentication, measurement data, and other information. If you dispose of, transfer, or resell them without erasing this information, a third party may read the settings or measurement data, or misuse it to connect to your system without authorization.
When you stop using the Product, erase the stored information as follows:
- EG Device: Initialization erases measurement data, settings, certificates, and other information. The software version is not erased, so the latest security measures are kept. Because connection settings and authentication certificates are also erased, an initialized EG Device must be set up and registered again before it can be used again.
- EG Device AC Model and EG Device DC Model: Press and hold the reset button on the device for 10 seconds or longer, then release it to initialize the device (software version 1.3.0 or later). Detailed instructions are provided in the manual, which you can download from “Documents” (the book icon) at the lower left of the EnergyGazer screen. On versions earlier than 1.3.0, this operation restarts the device instead of initializing it. In that case, or if it is difficult for you to perform the operation yourself, please ask our support.
- EG Device Modbus Model: We will initialize the device for you. Please contact our support.
- Cloud version: To delete accounts or measurement data, please ask our support.
- On-premises server: To erase the stored data, please ask our support.
